Rebecca Wiasak is a track and road cyclist and the current Australian Criterium Champion. She was the World Champion in the Individual Pursuit in 2015 and 2016 and won a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Individual Pursuit, lowering her own Australian record to 3:25.936 in the qualifying round. She was the reserve for the Team Pursuit at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Rebecca moved from Geelong to Canberra in 2003 to study a degree in Sports Media at the University of Canberra and trained under Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) middle distance coach Dick Telford for three years before entering the full-time workforce as a sports journalist at The Canberra Times in 2005. After losing fitness in her demanding office job, Rebecca competed in a few novice triathlons before joining the training squad of Olympic triathlon coach Ben Gathercole. She raced as an age-grouper at the World Triathlon Championships on the Gold Coast in September 2009.
In May 2010 Rebecca transitioned to cycling and trained with the ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS). She was lured to the track in November 2011 and within a year was invited to her first training camp with the Australian Track Endurance Squad in Adelaide. In January 2013 she represented Australia at the Track World Cup in Aguascalientes in Mexico winning a bronze medal in the Individual Pursuit. Rebecca was a member of the team which set a new Australian Record in the 4000m Team Pursuit at the World Cup in Aguascalientes in November 2013.
At the 2017 World Championships in Hong Kong, Rebecca raced in all three rounds of the Team Pursuit where the Australian team qualified for the gold medal final but were narrowly beaten to finish second.
Before she became a professional cyclist, Rebecca also worked in public relations, as a store manager for The Runners Shop in Phillip, and for the Australian Government in a communications role. She was part of the Cycling Australia High Performance Program based in Adelaide for five years and is currently training full-time.
